Enrollment and Class Information

Sunflower Montessori School, a not-for-profit organization, offers a program for children, ages three to six, without regard to race, color, religion, ethnic background, or national origin.

Children attend class five days a week from 8:20 a.m. to 11:20 a.m. during the academic year.  An extended day class begins at 11:20 a.m. and is in session until 2:30 p.m., five days a week, for children approximately five years old.  The morning class is staffed with teacher and an assistant.  Staffing for the extended day program is determined by the size of the group.

Application Process
  • Observing
In keeping with the close partnership between the school and parents, we request that parents considering enrollment of their child first visit one of our classes for an observation. These appointments, beginning at 9:00 a.m., are for one adult at a time and last up to an hour. To schedule an appointment, please contact Karen Hohman at (708) 246-3757.
  • Application
Please fill out and submit your application, available from Karen Hohman.
  • Meeting with Parents and Director
Karen speaks with the child’s parent(s) to answer any questions and provide additional information on the school and its programs.
  • Meeting with Child and Teacher
Karen will meet wth your child in order to evaluate readiness.

Terms of Acceptance

Openings at Sunflower Montessori are generally filled by three-year-old children.  Priority is given to currently and previously-enrolled Sunflower families.  A child’s acceptance is based on a parent’s observation date at the school, the order in which wait-list forms are received, and the staff’s determination as to whether a child’s best interests will be served by Sunflower Montessori School.  A strong effort is also made to maintain a balance of ages and sexes.  Wait lists are formed no more than one year ahead.  The school usually begins scheduling parent observations dates in October.  The school generally begins sending enrollment applications to those families on the wait list for which it has room in March or April.

Terms of Withdrawal

In the event that a parent chooses to withdraw his/her child from Sunflower Montessori School and the school is able to replace the student with another student, a replacement fee of $100 must be paid by the parent who is withdrawing his/her child.  A pro-rated refund of previously paid tuition, if any, will be returned to the parent.
